Tire Age Checker
Take a photo of your tire, or type the code from the sidewall, to see how old it is. Old tires can blow out in the heat even when the tread looks good.
Find the DOT code on the tire sidewall and enter its last 4 digits:
DOT XXXX XXXX 2321 — here 23 is the week and 21 is the year (week 23 of 2021). It may be on the inner side of the tire only. Check all four tires and the spare.Pressure
Check when the tires are cold (before driving), using the pressure on the sticker inside the driver's door — not the maximum printed on the tire. Under-inflated tires overheat and are the most common cause of blowouts.
Heat & tread
In summer, check pressure more often and look for cracks, bulges or cuts on the sidewall. Replace a tire when the tread is level with the small wear bars inside the grooves.
General guidance only. Your tire maker's and vehicle maker's advice comes first; ask a tire shop if in doubt.
